2018 Lunar New Year at Disney California Adventure | Expedition L.A.

We promise we will eventually go somewhere other than Disneyland. Disney California Adventure is currently celebrating the Lunar New Year until February 18th. Paradise Pier is the home to this celebration. In honor of Lunar New Year they have three new pop up food booths, one celebrating Chinese food, one celebrating Korean food, and one celebrating Vietnamese food. They’ve also converted the menu at Paradise Garden Grill to feature a combination of Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese food. We both had the Bánh mì thịt nướng (a sandwich served on a baguette with pork belly, picked carrots and daikons, jalapeno, seasoned mayo, cucumber and cilantro) from Paradise Garden Grill, then from the Vietnam booth Rick had a Bánh chưng (sticky rice cake with pork) and I had the Chạo tôm (sugar cane shrimp skewer with sweet and sour sauce). You’ll hear our full review on our podcast. As you can tell from the pictures below, it’s the Year of the Dog, so Pluto is prominently featured throughout the festival.

In addition to delicious food, they also have special performances throughout the day. In the Paradise Garden Grandstand they have a rotating lineup of musical acts, then in the Paradise Park area they have a group called GuGu drum group perform a few times a day, which we were able to catch part of. There is also a mini parade called Mulan’s Chinese New Year Procession which ends right in front of Goofy’s Flight School and features a show, which we didn’t get a chance to see. They’ve celebrated Lunar New Year for a few years now, but this was the most they’ve done for it. If you have a chance to go any of the remaining days this year, we highly recommend it and if you don’t, there’s always next year.
